  • 01/23/09--08:54: My ovaries thank you, Mr. President (chan 1069788)
  • I didn't cry or get weak in the knees on inauguration day, but I was pleased at his speech and proud that this country so overwhelmingly made the right choice. I didn't cry when, on day one, President Obama stepped in yet another right direction, and made the moves towards shutting down Gitmo, although I was proud.

But I did cry when on day two and on the anniversay of Roe v. Wade. At 28 years of age, I have spent at least a decade silently fuming that religious and right wing nuts would make MY BODY a banner for their campaigning. I fumed as Sarah Palin dared to suggest that abortion should be illegal even in rape cases. Nothing has infuriated me more then this issue amongst politicians.

No, I've never been pregnant. And frankly, I don't know that I would have the ability to abort my baby no matter what. But I strongly believe that the government has no right to tell me or any woman what to do with our bodies. I believe that the decision to abort or keep a child is purely for the woman and her family to make. I will not be held hostage by my ovaries, especially not in the name of advancing the cause of religious conservatives who care nothing for me or any other woman on a personal level.

  • 11/03/09--09:50: We can't ask taxpayers to pay for abortions, but we can ask them to pay for prayer therapy? WTF? (chan 1069788)
  • Most folks don't know about this tiny little provision in the health care bill, so I figured I would write up a diary about it. Senator Hatch (R-Utah) snuck this provision in but it has some big name supporters behind it, namely Senator John Kerry and the late Edward Kennedy.

The measure would put Christian Science prayer treatments -- which substitute for or supplement medical treatments -- on the same footing as clinical medicine. While not mentioning the church by name, it would prohibit discrimination against "religious and spiritual healthcare."

    Read on below the fold.

  • 03/24/10--15:12: Over 1,740 Roses for Speaker Pelosi's 70th Birthday!! (chan 1069788)
  • This Friday, March 26 happens to be Nancy Pelosi's 70th Birthday!

Given how much serious ass she kicked in herding cats, twisting arms and otherwise corralling 219 Democrats into passing the most sweeping (if flawed) overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system in 45 years, I thought it would be a great idea to do a repeat of the famous 2004 Barbara Boxer Rose Campaign to celebrate Speaker Pelosi's 70th birthday.

  • 11/01/10--11:28: One Rally To Rule The Mall - A photo diary (chan 1069788)
  • So it turns out that there was this little event on Saturday, October 30th, at the National Mall, and I just happened to be in town to attend with a few friends. According to CBS news, those friends numbered somewhere around 215,000, compared to Glenn Beck's "I have a gold-selling scheme" rally, which CBS estimated at 87, 000. Some party, hmm? Word on the street is that Neocons are seething about it.

I'm from Orlando, Florida, and my sweetheart Steven and I drove 16+ hours to get to Washington, DC, for this massive event. We also had a friend of ours, Mike, along for the ride. And we didn't exactly have a whole lot of time to make this trip. We took Friday off of work, drove all day, went to the rally on Saturday, and then Steven and I started the drive back to Orlando on Saturday night, doing the last 9 hours of it on Sunday. I had to get up bright and early Monday morning at 6am for a long day of work. I'm one of those folks Jon Stewart talked about, you know those people who have sh*t to do.

Anyway, I wanted to post all the great pictures, mostly of signs, that I took at the rally. Follow me over the fold for a trip to DC...

  • 07/18/11--09:34: Portland, OR Kossacks--I need your help! (chan 1069788)
  • Hello, Portlanders! I am writing to you today to ask for help and advice. I searched in vain for a Portland or Oregon group on Dkos, but there is no search function (very much needed, Kos, please!) for groups, and I know my eyes glazed over a bit when I was going through page after page of groups, so I might have missed it.

Anyway, the fiance and I have been looking at moving to Portland, OR for a while now, but we waited in hopes that the economy might improve. Currently we live in Orlando, FL. We're computer people--he's a programmer, I run a computer training facility. I have done technical work but most of my background is more along the lines of customer service and hospitality management. We have 3 cats, 2 cars, and a two-story townhouse worth of furniture.

  • 12/02/11--06:00: Victorious Secret: A SW:TOR Republic Guild for Kossacks (chan 1069788)
  • Victorious Secret is a PvE guild on the Republic side of Bioware's new MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Since the game hasn't launched yet, we don't have a server, and we are just starting out. VS is taking part in the pre-launch guild deployment program, so I may have a server assigned to me by Bioware in the coming weeks before official launch. Stay tuned!

VS was originally a World of Warcraft Alliance guild, first on the pvp server Cho'gall, and later on Haomarush after Blizzard offered free transfers. I played WoW since launch day until this year, when I finally burned out, and so had most of my guildies. After a long break from MMOs to just play various other games out there, I was accepted into TOR's beta test, and found my new home. My dearest WoW friends and fellow VSers have also decided to play TOR, so Victorious Secret will ride again, this time in space! For the Republic!

  • 12/13/11--08:24: Victorious Secret: Dkos Republic Guild (chan 1069788)
  • Hello my pretties! Welcome to the Unofficial Daily Kos Republic Guild for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I am pleased to announce that today, 12/13/2011, is a momentous day indeed. Not only did Victorious Secret receive its server assignment yesterday, but today the first wave of invites for Early Access, for those of us who preordered, are going out. And I am IN! Yay!

Good luck to everyone else who preordered, I hope you get into the game as quickly as I have.

  • 12/14/11--07:39: Somebody on DKOS just BLEW MY MIND! (chan 1069788)
  • I have been running on fumes of late, with work being so ridiculously busy the past 3 weeks and even more so this week, that I almost missed this wonderful subscription drive going on. I became aware of it a couple of days ago when Triciawyse, aka the Pootie Queen, posted her thank you diary. And then Nurse Kelley posted all Cranky-like about technical issues.

I thought it was perfectly lovely for really deserving people to receive gift subscriptions. $100 isn't anything to sneeze at, not to me anyway, because I had to go very economical this year on my Christmas gifts for my family and friends. Money is always a little tight, and right now I'm scrimping and saving every penny I can, to try to be ready for the big move in April (moving from Florida to Oregon in the hopes of better jobs and lives). $100 is a lot to me. It's a lot to many people. But there are diarists on this site that deserve it and more.

  • 01/18/12--13:29: Star Wars: The Old Republic (chan 1069788)
  • Got an in-game mail last night from a Kossack who was wondering if Victorious Secret was still around, because I haven't posted a diary about TOR since my initial one.

The answer is, yes! We are still around and kicking! We had a very quiet Christmas as folks did the family thing and such, but we're starting to see activity pick back up again now that January is almost over, and people are back into the work and school groove. A prominent member of VS and one of my officers just got married this past weekend, so he and his missus haven't been around since the holidays thanks to trying to put the wedding together.

So, while VS has been quiet, we are definitely still here!
